It’s really time to put this sham debate to rest. Global Warming is real. It’s serious… and it’s something humans need to do something about!
Yesterday we got a new report from hundreds of media outlets that the North Pole could be completely melted by the end of this summer!
Serious people need to turn their discussions away from “Is it real?” and “Is it our fault?” To “What can we do about it NOW?”
An excerpt from the CNN article:
“If you talked to me or other scientists just a few years ago, we were saying that we might lose all or most of the summer sea ice cover by anywhere from 2050 to 2100,” Serreze said. “Then, recently, we kind of revised those estimates, maybe as early as 2030. Now, there’s people out there saying it might be even before that. So, things are happening pretty quick up there.”
Serreze said those who suggest that the Arctic meltdown is just part of a historic cycle are wrong.
“It’s not cyclical at this point. I think we understand the physics behind this pretty well,” he said. “We’ve known for at least 30 years, from our earliest climate models, that it’s the Arctic where we’d see the first signs of global warming.
“It’s a situation where we hate to say we told you so, but we told you so,” he said.

I couldn’t agree with you more! :-0
It is totally strange but what if the North Pole melted and we were able to actually use it to plant fields of grain, vegetables and fruit …. What if we only used it for corn that could be converted to ethanol and we reduced our oil consumption by large numbers…… Look what Israel did with its dessert. They are now one of the largest exporters of fruits and vegetables. Desserts now bloom with food … OK I am not a scientist and have read that the polar caps melting would be catastrophic to to Planet Earth…. Maybe I am just dreaming or fantasizing. Our we doing our parts. Thanx to Justin’s prodding my family and I have done things to help. Green lights, higher milage cars, growing our own food ( new crop is yielding tomatoes, herbs, zucchinni’s, white eggplant, peppers, etc. ) and I have reduced my paper consumption in my business by 75% less by scanning documents and emailing instead if faxing and by insisting on documents being sent via email instead of fax, etc… I still have so much more to do……
Follow up…. I meant to type in Deserts not Desserts although I really love sweets… Also I am not an expert on Ethanol and do not know if this is a viable solution. I was just throwing out an idea.
Global Warming is a conspiracy devised by communist spies.
Eli, that comment made me laugh. For the record, I don’t necessarily agree. Justin, again, why is it that skeptics should remain silent? Don’t we thrive on true debate about the most important issues of our day? Just as I would welcome the anti-war critics comments on the legitimacy and future of Iraq, I also welcome a healthy debate about the facts of Global Warming. You’ll remember that the predictions made by Global Warming advocates have turned out wrong before. Why is there a concerted effort to silence skeptics from the established scientific community? Wouldn’t an open debate actually help the cause? Especially if it is grounded in good science? The complete disregard for all disagreeing views takes away from Global Warming advocates’ credibility.
Joel, while I agree wholeheartedly in the idea of dissent contributing to the value of debate, I do not think it is constructive anymore in this case. We have a situation on the planet earth right now that virtually all scientists agree is dire or soon-to-be dire. Whether humans have done anything or not to cause the problem, it’s even more clear that we can make steps to correct it to some degree.
My problem with dissent in this case is that it distracts us from acting swiftly and decisively upon something that NEEDS immediate action. Dissent is fine but too many people want to believe the <10% minority because they're too complacent to change anything... well then it's a harmful distraction.
The "open debate" on the topic has already happened among the scientists. Scientific consensus papers are meant to put the “public” debate to rest because the scientists have pretty much agreed!
With all due respect, but the people commenting on this post are not really qualified to make these types of decisions… scientists are.
facts are not subject to democratic rigors. 51% agreeing does not make 2+2 = 5.
is running good for people? what is the consensus answer?
ill tell you why consensus is wrong.
billy, true point.
However, a few lonely dissenters does not a “debate” make.
