Why the Right wing is CRAZY

Newsmax is a right wing magazine. I subscribe to its newsletter to keep abreast of what they are saying. even though I don’t agree with them, I try to stay informed just in case they make a good point. Sometimes I groan, sometimes I laugh, and sometimes I go “hmmm”. But the article I just read on that site is downright crazy! Whoever this guy Kenneth R. Timmerman guy is, he should be muzzled.

This is the crap that comes in their emails!

Seriously?

Why is this article titled crap Israel Attack on Iran ‘Unavoidable’, Olmert Deputy Crap. It is only an article about the conflict brewing between and Israel and is almost the same article in CNN. It is only interviews and facts and it was not a op-ed piece by some radical or left or right wing group. It was just a news piece. Not everyone in Israel agrees with the government and its designs or attacking or not attacking Iran’s nuke program. Israel has a very very pig peacenik group and is on the cutting edge of freedom of speech. Its people were very vocal in its opposition to the war in Lebanon which was a disaster and there is a strong presence wanting peace. I personally feel Israel has the worst government and PM in its History ( Benjamin Natanyanhu ranks second ). Missiles flying into Lebanon did not stop Hezbollah from firing Iranian missiles into Israel and did not bring back the kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Back to the article being called crap I think it was not … It showed one politicians view of wanting to attack Iran … Now that is scary as bombs flying and countries at War is not a good thing. Then again Iran armed with russian supplied nukes is a very scary thing….. What can be done. Wouldn’t it be nice if we can do a Korea on Iran… the only difference is Iran bases everything on religion doctrine where Korea based it on the need for food…. How do we change thought processing .Maybe as I told Justin we can form a Department of Peace and and be on the offense instead of DEFENSE….. Peace…..

Steve, you’re right about the article. It’s pretty much one guy’s opinion, which is fine. My point was that the headline (and the idea that an attack is “Unavoidable”) is CRAZY. War with Iran is the LAST thing that should be entertained right now unless we want to make a bad situation worse.

This is an example of the right wing setting up the idea of another war… just like they did with Iraq… and look where that got us. I personally think it’s crazy to talk as if we’re going to war with Iran.

… and the “coming Obama stock market crash”? Puhleeeze. Propaganda!

The difference is that it is a know fact with real supporting evidence that Iran is developing Nuclear Technology capable of weapon grade nukes and the technology is all being provided by Mother Russia who is also providing the uranium to be converted to plutonium. In Iraq we had no evidence … Just a bunch of BS and rhetoric and a revenge factor because Bush Senior was a failure in Iraq. Iranian Leader is clearly saying almost everyday that they are going to wipe Israel off the face of the earth…. and host regular Holocaust Denying Conventions….. I want to be an Ambassador of Peace but I am at a standstill when it comes to Islamic Fundamentalism and Iran..

Sure, Iran is more dangerous than Iraq was. But talking about an impending WAR with them (while still fighting the first one) is irresponsible… The time for diplomacy is long overdue.

The article is not about US fighting a war but Israel attacking Iran ……

I spoke to a bunch of Israeli’s today at a BBQ outside of Atlanta and one was in the Israeli Army for fifteen years… He said there all this fuss is so stupid over Iranian Nukes as he said that any nuke fired on Israel by Iran would result in a barrage of enough nukes to destroy there whole country…. I did debate with him about the recent Invasion of Lebanon and why Israel did not go in with ground troops instead of using so many missiles… He said that ground troops going in to hundred of miles of territory boobytrapped and going after a few thousand terrorist that you can’t see opposed to mass troops of an Army was the main reason…. It is so sad that the people living in these countries can’t stop these Islamic Terror Groups from using there land as a staging ground to launch terror and missiles from which only invite opposing sides to attack and wreak havoc against them…..and innocent people always die and then blame the West and Israel instead of the Islamic Terror Groups that shoot missiles from peoples back yard or rooftops and then run to another site before the opposing sides lasers lock in on them….. It was interested the discussion we had about the sunni and shia war against each other and that is the core problem in the mideast now which also stretches all the way up to Checynya …

Agreed on all points. This friend of yours seems very smart, Steve! haha…

Hawks and Doves. They have existed since the dawn of conflict. Neither should be silenced. I don’t believe the article title you referred to, Justin, is irresponsible. After all, it came from a conservative media outlet and not the federal government. It also raises a very important foreign policy point. What will we do if Israel does attack Iran? The Israelis have surprised us before. I’m sure they will do it again- if not now then sometime else in the future.

The time for diplomacy is overdue? How can you use diplomacy to stop a bloodthirsty lion from eating you alive? History has shown over and over again that you cannot negotiate with those who want nothing more than to wipe you out of existence.

In one of Orson Scott Card’s columns on ornery.org he talks about extremists and how Diplomacy has failed in the past.

http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2008-05-18-1.html

In his column he discusses…

As pointed out by president Bush, radical Islam is not a “failure to communicate,” it’s pure hatred. The radicals have been very clear about their intentions to kill all the Jews, Christians, and any Muslim who openly opposes their hate filled doctrines. Their objective is to destroy western civilization at any cost.
No matter what goes on with appeasement, Iran and Al Qaeda have changed their statements about what provokes them. In short, Diplomacy doesn’t work against this type of enemy, we’ve tried. We’d all have to commit suicide before they are satisfied.
The attempt to ease tensions and heal relations through negotiations has proved futile, as the Israeli’s have demonstrated. Israel makes concessions; Palestinians keep none of their agreements. Israel then stops making concessions and they are accused of not abiding to the treaty. Palestinians murder Jews and when Israel retaliates, Palestinians scream about Israeli aggression.

I feel the need to link this video again because it shows the difference in mentalities of the Muslims and the Israeli’s in vivid detail. It is a presentation by a Lebanese woman named Brigitte Gabriel.

Her story is heartbreaking…

It’s the certainty and dire nature of those headlines that bother me. “6 days of Hell. The coming war with Iran” and “The Coming Obama Stock Market Crash”???? Come on! It’s right wing propaganda and it’s irresponsibly making people afraid. Fear has been the main tool of the neo-conservatives like Cheney for the last 8 years and thank goodness that’s changing. NewsMax isn’t exactly well respected so this isn’t such a big deal… but I was so offended I just had to post it…. precisely because it didn’t present a balanced argument such as “What would we do if…” but instead presents a fatalistic prediction that just scares people!

As for diplomacy, Iran is not an extremist nation. Yes Ahmadinejad is a crazy extremist who makes bombastic statements… but we have to remember that we give him, through the anger of his people at the US, legitimacy and power to speak out like this! Iran is a stable and mostly reasonable country that will listen to a US overture, just like North Korea.

After all, when Bush came into office and stopped negotiations with N. Korea he enabled them to build up their arsenal. It wasn’t until he re-entered negotiations that anything got done! Now they’re being taken off the “Axis of Evil”. (But don’t get me started about that name)

PS: watched the video of the Lebanese woman. Her perspective is interesting and in my opinion represents the problems that religion brings to all of this. It’s really sad to see, especially from my agnostic point of view.

#11 Eli Van Brunt on 07.21.08 at 5:12 am

Religion is not the problem.

#12 Justin on 07.23.08 at 10:52 pm

Oh really? Religion isn’t the problem? Tell that to the Shiites and Sunnis. Tell that to the Jews and Muslims… and most of all tell that to the terrorists who want to die for Allah to eliminate the jews and christians!

Religion is the common thread between all of this terrible strife in the middle east… and certainly in the issues that Lebanese woman mentioned.
(note the term “religion” not “god” used in this argument of mine)
